History File

This fully restored, early production car chassis 000175 was originally sent to the United States of America before returning ‘home’ to Germany in 2012. Changing hands in early 2015, the new custodian would start a two year adventure converting the car to a correct European specification, culminating in March 2017 with a confirmed Classic Data Condition 1 (Zustand 1) vehicle. Literally hundreds of hours have gone into to this no-compromise, frame off restoration culminating in the wonderful example we see today. We’ve inserted just a few restoration pictures selected from hundreds available, but those ‘in the know’ will quickly recognise the level of detail taken during this restoration. Restored by Fm Wallascheck in Germany, the car was restored for the company’s owner who has enjoyed the vehicle for the last couple of years. Now embarking on a new project (another SL Pagoda) it’s expected to be ready in late 2020.

Exterior

Finished in original Mercedes Benz back (schwarz 040) ZK solid acrylic, the car literally boasts a mirror like finish. Completed by the renowned paint company Fm Wallascheck in Germany, the exceptional finish must be seen to be believed. Scores of hours have gone into this car to create an amazing end product. Please do take time to view the restoration and preparation pictures where anti-rust and elastic (EPDS) chassis primer has been applied before actual painting has occurred. All chrome elements have been completely re-chromed to the highest standard to match a new dark red Soft Top and fully restored black Hardtop.

Interior

Possibly the highlight of the car, the new burgundy red leather seats and matching door cards are of the highest quality and have been perfectly matched to the perfectly crafted ergonomic dashboard. The quality of chrome and overall workmanship in these cars should never be underestimated; it’s simply wonderful German engineering at its very best. An appropriate period Becker Europa radio sits proud in the dashboard but, undoubtedly a great addition and at the owners express wishes, is the inclusion of heated seats. Discrete centre console switches show evidence to comfort available to both driver and passenger.

Engine & Transmission

Still with its original engine (number 000130) it has been completely stripped and overhauled by a marque specialist. Likewise, the gearbox has been fully stripped and overhauled by ZF, as one would imagine with a full nut and bolt frame off restoration. The supplied restoration pictures are just a few of literally hundreds available on request. The car drives wonderfully well and offers a healthy turn of speed. The six cylinder-inline 2778cc (four-stroke) engine produces a sprightly 170ps (125kw).

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

Currently, our superb example wears Fuchs alloys with new Vredestein Sprint Classic 185 HR 14 90H tyres but, we are also offering the original set of 4 steel wheels with black hubcap trims. Naturally, the complete hydraulic disc brake system has been totally overhauled offering strong progressive braking power.
