This Alfa Romeo 75 (Tipo 162B E) was originally registered in Spain in June 1990 and is one of Alfa’s compact executive models produced by the Italian manufacturer between 1985 and 1992. Interestingly, the Alfa Romeo 75 was the last model released before Alfa Romeo was acquired by Fiat. Hugely successful for Alfa, in terms of numbers produced, they had built around 386,767units in just 7 years which was impressive for the period. This particular example has clearly survived well, probably due to the hotter climate and displays an overall super condition. Recently imported to Germany, it easily passed the stringent road worthiness checks and is now registered with Historical registration. It’s a great entry model to the world of classic cars and will offer bags practical fun.


The 75 is quite distinctive with its black – arrow like – side body molding’s and contrasts nicely here against the white exterior. Some paint has been applied over the years, we suspect to freshen it up after being in the Spanish sun but, there is zero rust on the car and it really is quite an unusual survivor. A small mark is evident on the driver’s door mirror along with a tiny area of paint scuff on the left boot lid edge, but you would be forgiven if you didn’t find them without being shown. Other distinctive characteristics on the European 75 model were: side-markers in the bumpers; exhaust silencer sticking out from under the bumper on the r/h side of the vehicle instead of at the centre; reinforcements in the doors (side impact bar) and boot lid hooks underneath the bonnet (engine hood), to keep the bonnet in position in a crash. All in all, a great example and becoming quite rare considering it’s age in comparison to how many were made.


The 75 featured a then-advanced dashboard-mounted diagnostic computer, called Alfa Romeo Control, capable of monitoring the engine systems and alerting drivers of potential faults which was quite advanced for the period in this particular category. Potential new to the model buyers will search for the front electric window switches eventually to find them in the roof console. It must also be said that the unusual handbrake grip was not the best idea that Alfa ever had, and also takes some getting used to. But undoubtedly the best interior feature are the seats. The high quality check cloth material is superbly applied all-round and includes the door panels too. Indeed a very comfortable drive and actually quite modern in its characteristics. The car also has its original Stanton radio Cassette which, it has to mentioned, is ridiculously inaccessibly placed just below the heater controls. Quirky, but not the best ever designed dash board.

Engine & Transmission

The engine bay is clean and tidy and perfectly consummate for just 70k kilometers. A recent service was completed prior to the German registration with the car pulling in it’s typical elastic Alfa style. Just over 27,000 1.6Ie were produced by Alfa with this particular unit offering 105 ps / 77kW and plenty of appropriate fun and power for its 1,300 kg weight.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

Prior to the German registration process, the car received a full breaks inspection with subsequent new brake pads. New Nexen 205/ 50 R15 86v tyres are covering recently purchased and appropriate Borbet 5 spoke alloys.
