GermanyHISTORY FILE – Full restoration. Registered new on 16th May 1961, this example appears to have been in Germany since the early 2000’s. In terms of paper history, there is very little BUT, with the previous owner taking custody in 2010, he was determined to produce the best available within this category and has literally not spared a dime in creating a wonderful example of this stylish iconic Italian car.
EXTERIOR – Full restoration. Our iconic Pininfarina designed Fiat 1200 Cabriolet, is a rare sight but, when in view is a real head turner. The 1200 model is easily noticeable by its bulging bonnet, despite its modest power unit. This classic Fiat is finished in Maserati Mezzanotte blue following a body off restoration and now displays an incredible paint quality. The chrome bumpers, over-riders and side body trim are in pristine, restored order and compliment the striking blue paintwork beautifully. The simple, yet functional, mohair roof system is tight and offers a cosy environment when the roof is up. But why would you want to? A nice modern feature is the lockable fuel filler cap.
INTERIOR – Full restoration. Essentially a 4 seater – and perhaps way ahead of its time – this evocative interior is displayed in quality ‘Maserati Cream / black’ – 2 tone leather. New quality contrasting French Blue carpeting finishes the ambience beautifully. An abundant chrome trim interior, easily takes you back to a styling period that will never be repeated (what a pity). The large 15” 3 spoke Fiat Emblem steering wheel produces light steering and is an item of pure joy. The quality, but delicately designed switchgear is fully functional and intact, as is the beautiful chrome fascia. The epitome of Italian flair and design preserved for those who know how to appreciate it.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION – Full restoration. The four cylinder unit in this 1200 Cabriolet model displaces 1221cc and a sprightly 52ps (38 KW) performance. The engine fires promptly at the turn of the key and delivers a lively sounding note that’s keen to perform – probably more than its engine size. Once used to the longer style gate change, the original four speed all-synchro gearbox changes nicely, commensurate for the period.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES – Full restoration. Five immaculate pressed steel wheels remain as factory fitted and are graced with the original chrome hubcaps showcasing beautiful Fiat detailing. Four quality Barum Brillantis 175/70 R14 tyres have excellent tread remaining. Once used to the typical Fiat period floor sourced pedals, the braking system offers adequate stopping power for its time. All completely renewed in accordance with a full restoration.
