HISTORY – This iconic 1970 Fiat 500 Lusso was originally a Dutch Bambino. Literally abandoned near a windmill and left to fend for itself, at first, it wasn’t actually clear what the original colour was! How sad.
EXTERIOR – Now finished in Pranila red; the paintwork boasts a deep luscious shine which suits the cheeky characteristics of this famous little Fiat. All quality chrome and bright work trim is present and remain in excellent order as do the Fiat badges. The window and door rubbers have all been replaced along with the sunshine roof in this high standard restoration. The underside presents fabulously well and really should be seen to be fully appreciated. The tubular chrome guards (standard Lusso equipment) are available and can be fitted if required.
INTERIOR – The interior styling of this classic Italian supermini is every inch a fashion icon and epitomises chic design. The Black PVC seats with matching door cards and padded dash rail are in immaculate restored condition. All original functions and controls operate perfectly and the floor mounted choke control and starter remain. The flat band style speedometer and warning lights function correctly. A fully detailed front luggage compartment houses the spare wheel and rubber holding strap. This is a lovely understated interior which is true to design.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION – The two cylinder air cooled rear mounted engine thrums along beautifully having the recommended and desirable 126 model (650cc) transplant. Visually almost identical, it offers better maximum torque and flexibility and livelier acceleration for real world town driving. It offers 26 ps with a top speed of 120 km/h and is transferred through a 4-speed constant mesh, completely rebuilt gearbox which requires perhaps a little familiarisation to the novice classic car driver.
WHEELS, TYRES, BRAKES – Disc type steel wheels have been restored to give a simple finish. New matching whitewall tyres beautifully suit our red Bambino. All brakes have been completely overhauled to offer modern day stopping power.
