Remarkable original Jaguar E-Type Series 3 OTS manual transmission

HISTORY – (1S 22557) – Jaguar Heritage Trust have confirmed that our matching numbers car was built on the 16th of April 1973 and subsequently shipped to its original distributor, British Leyland New York USA, at the end that month. We can confirm 4 owners to this wonderful original survivor by starting with its current German registered keeper who purchased the car from the renowned New York based classic car company Gullwing Motors in 2006. The third custodian, Mr Alan Miller, has confirmed two previous owners, including the original owner, all from the United States of America. Since its German registration in 2006, particular attention has been placed on the mechanics of the car which now run probably better than when it left the factory. A confessed carburettor junky, the current owner now has the car running sublimely well. Chassis number 1S 22557 offers an admirable patina, unlike so many over restored cars and, we believe, realistically priced at €129,000 Cathedral Classics are delighted to offer this unmolested survivor to the market place which is bursting with originality, so rare these days with a host of invoices from the last decade confirming the cars well maintained state. We have found no reason to doubt that the indicated 69,366 miles are genuine and correct.

EXTERIOR – This completely corrosion free Jaguar (Body Nr: 4S 4436) is finished in the rare colour of Sable; the largely original paintwork is consistent with a 46 years old motor car. In 2006, following its arrival in Germany, it was quickly “European-ised” with 4 new over-riders, taking car to retain the original bumpers. Displaying a splendid patina, on closer inspection, it’s still possible to see primer paint on some of the panel edgings and sills. Viewing is always recommended as there are most certainly a few insignificant age imperfections, but do not be put off by the sheer originality of this great survivor. The sensitive front of the bonnet area has clearly received paint at some stage but, it does not retract from the incredible overall originality of the car. It really is a true survivor! Uncommonly, the original ever flex roof is still in place, all be it with a small but evident repair behind the driver’s side. Again, insignificant and confirms the cars rare original status.

INTERIOR – Jaguar Heritage Trust confirm that the car left the factory with their simply termed Cinnamon leather interior and remains today. With the exception of the depicted driver’s seat repair, the interior is in an age related original condition. All carpet areas clearly show wear but, are again completely commensurate with a vehicle of this vintage. Sadly, (perhaps not for everyone) the original factory steering wheel has been replaced at some stage by the existing Nardi model you see today.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION – The 12 cylinder 5343 cc unit (Engine Nr: 7S 11528 LB) produces 272 bhp through its 4 Zenith Stromberg carbs which were completely overhauled in September 2018. A host of mechanical invoices confirm just how well the car performs; including timing belt and water pump change. Recent work concluded by the fastidious custodian, includes a complete steering rack overhaul and the renewal of all the cars fluids. The 4 speed manual box number (KL 5695) changes precisely as it should.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES – The factory original chrome wire wheels are in great condition and are also appropriate with such a preserved example. Shod in Pirelli P4000 tyres they have recently passed the strict German TÜV system but, we would perhaps recommend renewing in the not too distant future. Incredibly, the original unused spare wheel sits proud in the boot with its factory delivered whitewall tyre. Recent brake maintenance has included a complete fluid change including a new holder plus a new brake booster.
