History

In July 2001, following more than five years of intensive development using the cutting-edge supercomputer technology known as “CAVE” (Computer Aided Virtual Environment), Mercedes-Benz unveiled the successor to the long-running Mercedes-Benz R129. This new model was introduced at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show as the brand-new Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (R230). Production officially commenced on October 13, 2001, at the Bremen manufacturing plant, and European sales began the following November. All of these remarkable vehicles were meticulously assembled in Bremen, Germany, with a production run that continued until 2011, encompassing a total of eight unique engine variations and two automatic gearbox options. This particular First Generation SL 55 AMG, with the chassis number WDBSK74F05F095432, rolled off the production line in late 2004 as a Model Year 2005 car. It was subsequently shipped to the United States, where it received its initial registration in 2006. Interestingly, in February 2008, the car made its way back to Germany, where it has had three owners, with the last two being from the same family. Upon its return to Germany, it underwent a comprehensive transformation, including the installation of a luxurious Alcantara interior to an exceptionally high standard, which incurred a cost exceeding €24,000. Additionally, a new set of 20″ alloy wheels, fully approved by the German TÜV, from the renowned manufacturer LORINSER, was fitted, adding a distinctive touch to this head-turning example.

Exterior

The car originally rolled out of the Bremen factory in a striking Brilliant Silver Metallic (744U) finish, complete with the factory option paint preservation code (524). However, it has since undergone a remarkable transformation, now boasting a full-body white folio conversion that remarkably complements the car’s overall appearance. This conversion adds a unique and elegant touch to the vehicle. Furthermore, the car features the factory option (772) AMG Styling Package, which includes a Front Spoiler and Side Skirts, confirming its high-end status and enhancing its aesthetics. It’s worth noting that this conversion was carried out back in 2008, and over the course of 15 years, there are minor signs of wear. Specifically, a few small folio areas on the front of both sills and front wheel arches exhibit slight signs of use, and these have been thoughtfully documented in the provided photographs. Additionally, the front spoiler has a small crack, also visible in the photos. However, these minor imperfections do little to diminish the car’s overall street presence, which remains undeniably stunning.

Interior

Presenting the true standout feature of this exceptional car! In addition to its fully electric and memory seats, this vehicle has received a lavish interior transformation. Interior specialist AUTOMOBILDESIGN, located in Paderborn, Germany, has meticulously carried out this extensive Alcantara conversion, which involved a significant investment exceeding €24,000. The result is nothing short of astonishing, reflecting an unparalleled level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. To truly grasp the remarkable quality and beauty of this interior, it must be experienced in person. However, for a preliminary glimpse, we invite you to explore the included photographs. These images provide a tantalising preview of the exquisite black upholstery adorned with elegant white stitching—a luxurious environment that any prospective owner is certain to relish and appreciate.

Engine & Transmission

This First Generation SL 55 AMG is equipped with a robust 5,439 cc V8 engine, part of the M113 family. This powerhouse generates an impressive 500 PS (368 kW / 302 hp) and is paired with a responsive 5-speed automatic transmission, delivering a seamless and powerful driving experience. The vehicle’s mechanical well-being is well-documented with a comprehensive service history. The service book (Serviceheft) showcases the care and attention it has received, bearing three official Mercedes service stamps at critical intervals: 14,000 kilometers, 24,000 kilometers, and 52,000 kilometers. Furthermore, the most recent service was performed in May 2023, with the vehicle clocking in at 80,000 kilometers, and this service was conducted by a specialised service centre, ensuring that this extraordinary car remains in prime condition.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

This striking car confidently showcases its distinctive style on a set of impressive 20″ LORINSER alloy wheels (code number: LM 5 10020538), meticulously approved by the German TÜV for both safety and quality. The set includes all the necessary certified paperwork to provide assurance. These wheels offer the flexibility to fine-tune the ride height, seamlessly complementing the car’s standard equipment featuring electrically controlled adjustable air-suspension. Recent tyre upgrades add to the overall package, with 245/30 ZR20 tyres up front and appropriately sized 285/25 ZR20 tyres in the rear.
