Our simply luxurious Mercedes S-Class 500 was initially registered in May 2001 as a company car in the Stuttgart area of Germany before changing hands in 2004 to, let’s just say, a private gentleman of experienced years who clearly had an eye for quality and sublime German engineering. Meticulously maintained for his 16 year tenure, the service book displays all Mercedes stamps right up to 102,902 kilometers which, in terms of Mercedes longevity, this engine is only just run-in. This gentleman’s carriage just exudes luxury and is clearly a car for the most exacting of Mercedes enthusiast. The condition of the car is a credit to last owner who, at the age of 82, clearly cherished it before parting company.
Exterior
Our Mercedes-Benz W220 is a flagship saloon example which constituted the S-Class series during the early to mid-2000s. Development for the W220 S-Class started in 1992, with the final design, helmed by Steve Mattin and being approved in June 1995 before the start of production in August 1998. The cars original paint code 744 in brilliant silver metallic is completely blemish free and just as it left the factory with no additional spraying in the last 20 years. Fastidiously maintained by its last owner of some 16 years.

Engine & Transmission
The unique Mercedes chassis code W220.075 confirms the cars model type and that our S 500 is matched to a 5.0 Litre V8 M113 E50 24 valve engine, producing a healthy 306 PS (225 kW; 302 hp). The pace and smooth delivery of speed is simply mind boggling when the question is asked to push the 5G-Tronic gearbox which is Mercedes Benz’s trademark name for its 5-speed automatic transmission.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
Pirelli 225/60 R16 P6000 tyres – with plenty of tread are matched to and, it must be said, fairly standard but immaculate 16” 7 spoke light alloys. The immense braking power is most reassuring!
