An uncompromising restoration - rare German specification MGB GT

HISTORY FILEOur late chrome bumper model was one of just 60 cars produced in 1974 specifically for the German market. Under long term ownership from 1986 – 2015, it has received a no-compromise, nut and bolt restoration to an almost exact factory specification. The history file is full of invoices with photographic evidence culminating in, without question, probably the best European specification MGB available. TÜV April 2019.

EXTERIOR Finished in MG’s popular Flame Red (BLVC 61), this stunning GT model presents beautifully. True MG fans will recognize the correct black grill for 1974 models, along with the rear number plate lights integrated in the bumper. Structurally excellent with all chrome elements shining like new; an over critical eye will spot a small paint blemish on the front left wing, but does not offend. All SICURSIV glass elements are original with of course light patina markings. All MG badges are factory correct (so many examples have the wrong badges) again, MG fans will spot the correct front red emblem.

INTERIOR The interior has a like new feel to it with a simply stunning new Mota-Lita chrome/leather 14” steering wheel. The factory correct cloth seats are new in the front with the rear restored. All the controls, gauges (including the heating) and switches function correctly with of course, that all important Euro Km’s tacho. Our rare German specification car is again confirmed by its “bullet style” seat belts. Both roof lining and boot areas are in perfect condition. New black carpeting with red piping throughout matches the exterior well.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSIONThe engine detailing in our late 1974 chrome bumper car has been completed to a ridiculously high level. Replaced during the restoration direct from Leyland and confirmed by Heritage, it has covered a mere 51k km’s since 1986. Literally every nut and bolt has been replaced during the restoration with the detailing continuing underneath the car to an amazing level and should never, ever be driven in the wet again!!

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKESNow on wires wheels with 165 SR/14 Fulda tyres, this is perhaps the one area that non factory specification has been used during the restoration. I think our long term owner can be forgiven as they do, of course, suit the car. The brakes are superb.

The new owner should be absolutely thrilled with this extremely rare German specification car which was just one of 60 cars produced in the final period of chrome bumper models.
