ScotlandEQUIPMENT – Fantastic specification MGF including the infamously expensive Hardtop (black) with black leather headlining, heated rear screen, cruise control, leather seats with leather head restraints, boot rack, wind deflector, mud flaps, locking fuel cap, analogue clock, radio CD player, SRS drivers air bag, cup holders.
EXTERIOR – Finished in Solar red with facelift alloys which became standard from 1999, this model stands out with its distinctive boot rack and hard top on display. A few bonnet stone chip ‘war wounds’ are evident with touch up repairs. All bumpers and trim sections are spotless with no scuffs. The immaculate durable woven acrylic fabric black hood is effortless in operation and the plastic rear screen is clear and free from crease marks.
INTERIOR – A Mark II car with MG’s revised interior (from 1999 onwards), this model is equipped with full leather of a surprisingly high quality with matching head restraints. The hugely comfortable yet snug cockpit offers real sports car appeal with open top motoring delights. The matching door cards and black carpet mats are spotless adhering to such cosseted ownership and little use. An additional set of rubber MG mats are a handy accessory. The flawless dashboard houses fully functioning switchgear and the silver faced dials and chunky leather trimmed steering wheel accentuate the sporting nature.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION – A continuously variable transmission (CVT) also known as a single-speed transmission or stepless transmission is an automatic transmission that can change seamlessly through an indefinite number of effective gear ratios between maximum and minimum values. The automatic gearbox fitted to the 1.8i engine offers a higher power level at 145ps. These transverse mid- engine, rear wheel drive roadster cars are superb value for money with surprisingly good fuel economy. The timing belt kit and water pump were changed at 27,827 miles.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES – The factory original 15” – 6 spoke alloy wheels are shod in quality Goodyear Eagle NCT5 205/50 R15 tyres with excellent tread remaining. Locking wheel nuts are fitted for some security. The spare wheel is new with all relevant tools in place. Sadly, a scuff to the nearside front rim detracts from an otherwise flawless set. Brake discs and pads were changed at 36,101 miles and still pull the car up well.
HISTORY FILE – This is where this example comes into its own. Registered new by MG dealer Sargeant & Collins Ltd in Kent on the 27th July 2001, it stayed with its first owner until July 2011. Serviced regularly within the warranty period by the supplier, all relevant MG stamps are in the service book. Thereafter, it’s been fastidiously maintained by one single Service Station in the Kent area. The final invoice to the 1st owner is from September 2009 showing a mere 35,090 miles. The 2nd custodian took deliver in July 2011 and his literally used the car for high days and holidays, covering just 1291 miles in the last 4 years. A full compliment of MOT certificates confirm this very low mileage examples provenance.
