HISTORY FILE – Our rare VW Polo Coupe GT was registered in Germany in December 1986 and has been VW dealer serviced by the same dealer (Autohaus Pfeffer in Hagen) until 2004 – with just 69,800 km’s. Following a lengthy break, the car has recently been VW serviced again at 84,304 km’s bringing the cars VW history fully back up to date. Periods in the Netherlands and England show the cars charming appeal before it was ‘rescued’ and brought back to Germany. This time registered, of course, with a historical registration. Incredibly, all the VW instruction and service books are still in the original V.A.G folder adding to the incredible appeal of this entry model classic car.
EXTERIOR – Finished in Tornado Red, our Coupe GT example still has the black and silver decal stripes confirming the cars pedigree. Front fogs also verify the cars origins with both front and rear GT emblems correctly in place. Partially painted at some stage, the Polo is a great entry into the world classic cars for both young and older VW enthusiast. Both front and rear integrated spoilers are in excellent condition. Viewing is recommended to really appreciate the charm of this ‘wee’ car.
INTERIOR – The original silver striped option seats with head restraints are in excellent order and sit well behind the cars 3 spoke GT steering wheel. Often forgotten, these little cars offer 5 seat belts!! Astonishingly – as they are usually changed – the original Blaupunkt radio still sits proud in the dash with its original VW speakers and has not been molested with exchanged ‘boom-boom’ speakers. Both door cards – often a problem area – are in near perfect condition. It’s a charming simple interior but, with huge appeal and still puts some new car products to shame with its sheer quality.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION – Our 1272cc GT 1.3 Coupe is offered with the smaller 40kW (55ps) UKAT engine; combined with VW’s economic 5 speed gearbox (4 plus E) offering , for its age, fantastic fuel economy. VW serviced to within an inch of its life, our Polo Coupe GT drives absolutely smooth – just as it should.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES – The original steel wheels have recently been shot blast restored and present like new. They are, of course, fitted with (including the spare wheel) new Hankook 165/65 R13 tyres.
