History

The Alfa Romeo Spider, part of the iconic 105/115 series, remains an enduring symbol of classic roadsters. Spanning four distinctive generations from 1966 to 1994, each iteration brought forth nuanced alterations. The Series 1, famously known as the “Duetto” Spider, debuted at the 36th Geneva Motor Show in March 1966. This specific model, one of 6,324 1600 Spiders produced, initially found its home in the United States before returning to Europe in 2016 for an extensive three-year restoration in Germany, culminating in 2020. Now, a Historical registered German vehicle, this former Californian car stands poised for the new season and a potential new owner.

Exterior

Recognisable by its distinctive elongated, curved tail, earning it the moniker “Osso di seppia” (Italian for cuttlebone) or “boat tail,” the Series 1 Spider boasts an unforgettable design revered worldwide by enthusiasts and collectors. Restored in Celeste Pininfarina (light blue) hue by Fm. Gronemeyer in Germany, this example exhibits meticulous attention to detail. Adorned with dark blue accents, meticulously crafted by classic car trimmer Raimund Jach in Herford, Germany, the restoration results transcend the original, boasting a quality mohair soft top and leather tonneau cover, ensuring a captivating and pristine appearance.

Interior

Immerse yourself in a spacious cabin that emanates the fragrance of a new vehicle. Bathed in a rich blue palette, harmonising various shades across carpets, leather seats, door panels, and the dashboard, this interior exudes sophistication. The craftsmanship, executed by acclaimed classic car trim specialist Raimund Jach, showcases impeccable detailing, evident even in the roof fittings above the sun-visors. The original steering wheel adds an authentic touch, crowning this revitalised space.

Engine & Transmission

Powering this Spider is a 1,570 cc twin-cam engine featuring dual Weber two-barrel side-draft carburetors, delivering 109 PS DIN (80 kW; 108 hp; or 129 PS SAE). Paired with a sparsely appointed five-speed manual transmission, this particular model underwent a comprehensive overhaul by marque specialist Fm Cannizaro in Bielefeld, Germany, ensuring optimal performance.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

Embracing authenticity, the powder-coated steel wheels adorned with genuine Alfa-branded chrome hubcaps are wrapped in new Vredestein Sprint 165 HR14 84H tires. Furthermore, the car underwent a thorough brake overhaul as part of the meticulous restoration process.
