History File

“One Lady Owner” is a motor trade expression often used and abused over the years by many an advert heading and has become somewhat of a joke to so many. However, from time to time, they do actually exist and this is exactly what we are presenting here in conjunction with our UK partners Border Reivers, based on the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond in Scotland. Heritage Trust confirmed that this Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2 Litre Open Two Seater in LHD guise was dispatched to Herrington Motors of Montgomery, New York State in September 1968 and was purchased by its first and only private keeper, Miss Sarah J Hammer. The car was used sparingly for its initial 17 years, covering just 45,000 miles until 1985 when a long-term illness prevented Miss Hammer from driving her beloved E-Type which was then subsequently put into storage. It would remain there for the next 29 years until its inevitable sale. There is a letter with the car from Miss Hammer dated August 2015 confirming her sole ownership and the mileage of 45,063 at that point.

Finished in Pale Primrose Yellow, this Series 2 example was treated to a fresh coat of paint prior to leaving the United States before landing in the UK in 2016. Quite common for this colour, it was done to simply freshen the car up as the paint was appearing flat after some 48 years. Carefully done, it was important to also retain the cars authenticity by leaving the original paint under the bonnet and door checks. Upon arrival in the UK, it was also treated to a new mohair hood by Aldridge Trimmers which has completely transformed the overall presentation of the car.

The original black leather interior simply oozes patina and has been since complimented by a fresh carpet set fitted in 2016 by Aldridge Trimmers in England. Consummate with such a low mileage example all the switches are still clearly marked with little use and the car has retained its original factory steering wheel and Panasonic radio. In the boot are the cars original Jack and tools.
