History

This exquisite Jaguar E-type Series 3 Roadster boasts an intriguing history that adds to its allure. The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate confirms its build date as 06 November 1973, just seven months before production ceased. Shipped to British Leyland, New York, USA, as a stock vehicle on 24 January 1974 with chassis number UE 1S 23908 BW, it was initially purchased by Dr. J & J Amado Ltd, as evidenced by the original Purchase Order in the car’s History File. Their trade-in Chrysler handover date on 17 September 1974 indicates their eagerness to own this beauty.

Having remained in the hands of its original US owner until the mid-1990s, the E-type was later imported to the UK by Jaguar Land Rover Classic Car Sales and stored as part of their prestigious ‘E-type Reborn Programme’ in 2014. It was then auctioned by H&H in March 2019, and eventually acquired by Mr. Colin Briscoe, a retired garage owner well-known within the classic car trade.

Mr. Briscoe’s efforts to give the car a new lease of life have paid off, and it has now been converted to a more suitable European specification. Freshly painted and presented with a current French registration, this remarkable vehicle comes with heart-warming e-mail correspondence between Mr. Briscoe and the daughter of the deceased US owner, confirming its history of family use and storage.

Exterior

The Heritage Trust certificate confirms the car left the factory (body number 4S 6487) in Silver with black interior trim. Following its purchase from H&H, it received a new coat of paint which is depicted below with 26 stage by stage images; the US style bumpers were replaced in the process with new European over-riders, and the wing indicators professionally filled with sheet metal, also nicely depicted below. Incredibly, the cars factory PVC soft-top is still in place, with one small insignificant repair at the driver’s side. The rear window still shows the Warning! Do not rub with a dry cloth warning. But the bonus with this noble example is surely the original hardtop which adds a whole new dynamique to the car, both in terms of looks and comfort. Fantastic shut-lines throughout, this is a wonderful, extremely usable survivor, without being over-restored.

Interior

The original black leather seats have been recently refreshed and now present immaculately. The legible dashboard switches and pristine steering wheel and pedals attest to the car’s low mileage and authenticity. The soft-top frame retains its original light grey color, and the intact headlining adds to the vintage charm. New carpets on the driver’s side match the rest of the interior, which remains in astonishingly good condition for its 50 years. Moreover, the air conditioning has been recently refreshed and is now in fine working order, ensuring a pleasant driving experience.

Engine & Transmission

Greencats in Colchester England, undertook the task of reviving this magnificent V12 5.3-liter engine with 203 kW (272 hp) and Engine Number: 7S 14921 LB (all matching numbers). The process involved removing the US emission equipment and overhauling the four Zenith carburetors. The fuel system, tank, hoses, seals, and fluids were all renewed, resulting in very good oil pressure and smooth operation. The engine, with only 24,401 miles, is barely run-in, offering a fantastic opportunity for any discerning car enthusiast to enjoy the sheer power and elegance of this Jaguar E-type. Under the bonnet has recently received some detailing work, and without being over-restored, it now looks as it should as a genuine, very low mileage example.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

The original factory chrome pressed wheels exhibit some ever so slight age-related pitting, as expected, but they are still the authentic set that came with the car. Fitted with new Rapid P309 – 205 / 70 R15 – tyres, the car’s handling is superb. The rear calipers and pads have been replaced, and the brake system has been overhauled to ensure a safe and reliable braking performance.

This remarkable Jaguar E-type Series 3 Roadster is a genuine, low mileage example that radiates elegance, history, and pristine condition. With its wonderful interior patina, refined exterior, and meticulously restored mechanics, this masterpiece is ready to be cherished and enjoyed once again by its fortunate new owner. Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to own one of the most iconic cars in automotive history.
