History File

This is a 4 owner example with the third owner taking care of it for 30 of the cars 35 year existence. It is a German specification car with just 92,317 kilometers and an astonishing Mercedes-Benz history. With values for R107 models rocketing in recent times, and in particular for non-US import models, this example need not hide. Strong history and a somewhat different color combination, it will certainly attract attention. Fastidiously maintained by the third owner, the car clearly wanted for nothing during his tenure; just 38,000 kilometers in 30 years and with no less than 18 service stamps in the book, this is one pampered Mercedes. Definitely one for the purists and Mercedes collectors out there.

This exceptional Mercedes-Benz is finished in the somewhat rare colour of Pajett Red Metallic (code 5870) and still bares its original – untouched – factory finish. All exterior panels are blemish free but with one small scuff on the passenger side trim – but insignificant. This unmistakable classic Mercedes sports car is a real head turner, especially in this individual colour combination. The brown hood (code 746) is clean, tight and damage free, as are the side and rear hood windows. For top-down fun and comfort, the car is fitted with a correct Mercedes supplied wind-break. The colour coded detachable hard top is a fantastic compliment to the car. Once in place, the car looks just as good – if not better – in coupe guise.

Two dominant features in this German specification example are the Recaro electric seats and the BBS wooden/leather steering wheel. Both were fitted early in the cars existence by the initial owner with the original equipment no longer available. The steering wheel, as per German regulations, is listed and approved in the cars documentation. The electric seats and steering wheel offer a completely different dynamique to the car’s interior and indeed driving style. It’s an all-together improved level of comfort, complimented with a sportier driving position and a different feeling to any standard R107 car. The cabin remains in fantastic order throughout, confirming the low kilometers, with almost no signs of use to the switchgear. The dash and centre console present well with no marks or distortion. But there is, sadly, a leather “nick” near the roof release handle and depicted. Deep pile carpeting throughout is in great condition with additional quality Mercedes foot mats. Air conditioning (code 585) adds a little something to what is already a beautiful car that will turns heads – young and old – where ever it goes.

Engine & Gearbox

The 6 cylinder KE-Jetronic engine displaces 2962cc and produces an ultra-smooth 179ps / 132 kW and, as a regularly main dealer maintained unit, it will continue to offer ‘bullet proof‘ – reliability. Gloriously smooth and powerful it is mated to a four-speed transmission with rear wheel drive which is seamless in operation. In 1989, Mercedes officially changed the engine for a new unit – now 103010840080 – at 49,318 km’s, meaning that the current kilometers showing are actually less than half of what is displayed in the odometer – all fully documented.

Wheels, Brakes & Tyres

Lorinser Rims were fitted to the car back in 1987 and are officially listed within the cars registration document, as is necessary in Germany. The original wheels are available – on request. Shod in quality 225/50 ZR 16 Eagle GS-D tyres at the rear with appropriate matching 205/55 at the front, which retain good tread all round. The spare wheel is the original type and still unused. Fitted with ABS (code 470) the car produces superb stopping power.
